"We feel so fortunate that renovations will begin soon. We are not
going to be able to do everything right now, but it is a great beginning. In
the past six months we have received two large gifts to add to the
resources previously designated for Alzheimer's care," said Linda Shearer,
Director of Resident Services.
After 30 years we are more than ready to update and make the
Bratsberg Memorial Wing look more like home. Everyone is so excited.'
Carol Nelson Design has been commissioned to create the design. She is
meeting regularly with Immanuel staff to assess all the needs in creating a
comforting environment that resembles a classic home and still supports the
mission of caring for residents.
Livelier colors in cool tones, which were introduced in other parts of
the building during the last remodeling project, are being proposed and will
bring life to the dining room and hallways.
New flooring products, unavailable when Bratsberg was originally
constructed, will create the illusion of hardwood flooring without the
upkeep of "the real thing". An oak desk and cabinets at the nurse's station
are planned to remind residents of a traditional home setting.
Another big change at the Bratsberg Wing is the roof completion. With
that project now finished, it's time to brighten the ceiling and add
lighting in critical areas. New draperies and modern window shades are
planned to add beauty while keeping residents and staff cool in summer and
connected to the out-of-doors all year.
Other major improvements will be the expanded hard surface patio which
will allow staff and family to bring more residents outside for visits and
summer parties.
While we have not yet reached the total funds needed for this
project, we are confident of our ability to begin remodeling this year,'
Linda said. If you would like to add or increase your support for this
important project, please contact her at 752-9622.
